Kre8tif honors the best in the Malaysian Creative industry
The MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Industry Awards Night gave recognition to the most outstanding creative work sown locally, in true panache at its MTV-themed affair. The awards night also marked the conclusion of the 3-day MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Digital Content Conference (Kre8tif! Conference) which began on the 7th of December that saw the convergence of local talent and world renowned experts in the creative content industry.
More than 100 entries were nominated for over 20 awards contested - among them, Best Commissioned Work for Animation/VFX, Most Promising Start-up Animation Studio, Best Mobile/Online Game, Best VFX, Best Digital Comics as well as an Industry Achievement Award. Of these, 23 entries emerged tops in their respective fields where the winners walked away with a trophy and commemorative plaque each.
WASP Studio Sdn Bhd took the top honours for the Best Commissioned Work for Animation/VFX with their Music Video for LaMB. Broadcast on Animax Asia in March 2009, the TV feature revolves around Jack and Eve whose paths cross in the fictional planet of Cerra.
Meanwhile, the title of Best VFX was awarded to Basecamp VFX Sdn Bhd for DJARUM, which made a nationwide appearance in Indonesia.
In the Games category, Rotator by Studio Caterpillar and Ice Blast by Zombie Gecko claimed the titles of Best Mobile Games and Best Casual Games, respectively. Rotator was created for the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, providing a challenge to one's visual mapping skills. On the other hand, Ice Blast engages gamers via a global freeze concept to test their time management and strategizing capabilities.
Mohamad Yazid Bin Kamal Baharin's Intipati won Best Digital Comics with its metaphorical portrayal of an artist's journey towards achieving his goal. The project took on a different approach as it is continually updated, akin to that of a journal.
Awards were also given out for the Most Promising Start-up Animation Studio in both the Animation/VFX and Games genres. The honours went to Chain FX Sdn Bhd for their music video, Intan Yang Tercanai in the Animation/VFX category and Liquid Rock Games for their work on Aftershock in the Games category.
Multimedia Development Corporation's (MDeC) Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, presented the prestigious Industry Achievement Award to Encik Hassan Muthalib, a self-taught artist, animator, writer and director with over 40 years of experience in the animation industry.
The remaining awards were presented by various speakers at the Kre8tif! Conference, including John Stevenson, Director of Kung Fu Panda and Eric Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.
"I am extremely encouraged to see the wealth of talent from within our own shores. This is something that all Malaysians can be proud of and we should take every measure to assist our local contentprenuers in developing their skills and techniques to achieve even greater heights and propel our country to the world stage," said Datuk Badlisham.
Guests of the MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Industry Awards Night were also treated to snippets of the winning work along with performances by local artists.
