Double Negative's work on Inception wins Special Visual Effects BAFTA

Double Negative's work on the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film, Inception, received the highest honor in the UK film industry last night, when it won the BAFTA for Special Visual Effects.  Double Negative founding member, Paul Franklin, who was the film's overall VFX Supervisor, was there to receive the award along with DNeg's VFX Supervisors on the film, Peter Bebb and Andrew Lockley, who were also nominated.


 


Says Franklin, "This is a fantastic honour which recognises the huge amount of skill, effort and creativity that a team of over 250 artists and technicians put into the special visual effects of Inception. As the project's VFX Supervisor I was lucky enough to work with a truly gifted team of people who were able to bring to life the extraordinary vision of Christopher Nolan I am very grateful to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts who gave us a truly special moment on Sunday evening.


DNeg's Co-VFX Supervisor, Andrew Lockley, concurred with Franklin, saying "Last night was an amazing and very surreal evening, I couldn't quite believe it when they called Inception as the winner! I didn't stop grinning for the rest of the evening. A huge thank you to the whole DNeg Inception crew, and to Matt Plummer and his production team for all their incredible work."


Double Negative's Managing Director, Alex Hope, was also delighted with the news, saying, "Everyone at Double Negative is over the moon at this recognition. We'd like to thank Christopher Nolan for this opportunity, our amazing DNeg crew for all their hard work and all the BAFTA members who voted for Inception, for making this happen!"


Also receiving the award was the film's SFX Supervisor, Chris Corbould.


Inception won 3 awards at the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards, including Special Visual Effects, Sound and Production Design.


Double Negative's work on the film also recently received 3 Visual Effects Society awards and has been nominated for the Visual Effects Oscar in the forthcoming Academy Awards, to be held in Los Angeles on February 27th, 2011.
