Singapore will take centre stage as MIPTV 2010's "Country of Focus," with Singapore's Acting Minister for Communications, Information and the Arts (MICA) Lui Tuck Yew as the Guest of Honour. The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and International Enterprise Singapore will jointly lead the country's largest-ever delegation to MIPTV.

Singapore will jointly host a half-day conference with MIPTV on 12 April to highlight how its self-sustaining media ecosystem and internationalization strategy has led to the export of its capabilities, services and content for the world's audiences. This is also catalysed by its successful partnerships with international broadcasters, distributors and studios where to date, some 180 life-style and factual Asian-themed co-productions have been seen in more than 70 countries around the world.
Singapore is also actively championing Stereoscopic 3D and will share its experience and latest developments with MIPTV's expected 11,500 international visitors.

Through detailed case studies in a half-day conference on 3D on 14 April, audiences can also understand how local Singaporean companies possess the necessary state-of-the-art 3D technical equipment and specialised manpower for the filming of 3D projects.

These developments are part of the Singapore Media Fusion Plan (SMFP) launched last year against the backdrop of rapid technological convergence. SMFP aims to chart the Singapore media industry's growth for the future and developSingapore as a Trusted Global Capital for New Asia Media, supported by government-to-government partnerships through various treaties and MOUs with key countries worldwide such as Canada, Korea, New Zealand and Australia.

"Singapore is transforming into a creative economy bubbling with game-changing ideas and innovations, where global talents and businesses thrive. We are very honoured to be this year's "Country of Focus," and look forward to the sharing of best practices and forging new partnerships with our international counterparts at this premier broadcasting market," said Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer, Media Development Authority (MDA).

Other "Country of Focus" activities being planned include an exclusive VIP lunch and a networking event in the evening for exploring collaboration deals and networking with leading Singapore producers on co-production, animation and 3D Stereoscopic projects. Laurine Garaude, Television Division Director at Reed MIDEM, said: "Singapore's media sector is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing in the world, supported by a pro-active and energetic government strategy. We are very pleased to welcome Singapore as "Country of Focus" at MIPTV 2010 and honoured that Mr. Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore's Acting Minister of Information, Communications and The Arts (MICA)has agreed to be with us in Cannes."

This year, the 14-company strong Singapore delegation for MIPTV 2010 includes major local broadcaster MediaCorp which will showcase Made-by-Singapore content and promote, for international sale and distribution, more than 224 hours of High Definition (HD) programming across animation, factual, lifestyle and drama genres. Singapore is also venturing into 3D gaming to deliver a more realistic and immersive gaming experience. The Singapore Pavilion located at 05.20-07.19 will showcase a prototype of a 3D racing game that brings the player across four different worlds.
Singapore will be reaching out to international media players through a special game that will feature the best of Singapore's media industry and collaboration opportunities in a refreshing way. Titled journey.sg, the campaign features a journey to and through Singapore as the Heart of New Asia Media in an online board game which will be refreshed for key international markets.
