Sci-Fi contest finalists' comics to be showcased at Thailand Book Fair 2010

BANGKOK: Ministry of Science by NSTDA, Siam Commercial Foundation, Thai Cartoon Social Entrepreneur Network, Thai Cartoon Association, Thai Cartoon Institute Children Foundation, and Monkey Planet had set up the first 'Sci-Fi comic contest' for Colleges and Schools in Thailand and 10 finalists comics will be published and first issue will be sold at the Thailand Book Fair 2010 (21st - 31st October)



The Sci-Fi Comic Contest named "Thai Sci-Fi Comic Step up to International Market" aims to educate about the comic and related business and find the potential from the target group (College and High School Students).

Talking to Animation Xpress Asia Pacific, Napat Phromphruk, Monkey Planet shared, "The participating teams (each team has 3 persons) had to join the project seminar and create a short comic on their own story and design and send back to the judge team. After that, the judge team picked 10 finalists to join the 3 days at Sci-fi comic camp at Sirinthorn Science Home. In this camp, they joined seminar and workshop. After the camp, they had to improve their comic and sent the final back to the judge team. The 10 comics from 10 finalists were published and first issue will sell at the Thailand Book Fair 2010 (21-31 October) at Sirikit Convention Center, Bangkok with the awards ceremony. The winners are from Horwang School and Silpakorn University."

To choose the 10 finalists, six seminars and road shows were conducted in 6 cities in Bangkok where more that 300+ students joined for the contest. The workshops were conducted by National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thai Cartoon Social Entrepreneur Network, Thai Carton Association, Thai Carton Institute, Children Foundation, Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce. Judges of the contest were professional sci-fi writers, President of Thai Cartoon Association and NSTDA team
