R&H Malaysia & MAC3’s first Finishing School Program starts 6th Feb

Rhythm & Hues Malaysia and the MSC Malaysia Animation Creative Content Center (MAC3) together would be conducting a series of Animation and Visual Effects Finishing Programs to train students and professionals in Malaysia to broaden their course specialties in the area of Animation and Visual Effects.

The program is meant to compliment the formal education and bridge the gap towards the participants being industry-ready and is focused on sharing knowledge and expertise that will impart cutting edge education and training to the participants when they apply for jobs at studios.

Talking to AnimationXpress Asia Pacific, Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, Rhythm & Hues Malaysia shared, “The main objective of the program is to provide a platform for graduating students and also professional freelancers to upgrade their skills so they are industry-relevant. R&H sees that with this program we are giving an opportunity to passionate individuals who have the right attitude to expand their skill sets and to improve their knowledge in the Animation and Visual Effects industry. MAC3 as the government initiative to encourage the development of the digital content space in the areas of funding, infrastructure and talent sees this as an opportunity to elevate the standards of our local talents. The trained talent will be able to fill the gaps within the industry as the Creative Content Industry is growing rapidly in Malaysia”.

The fist program “The Basics of Compositing for Production” would commence on 6th Feb 2012, for 12 weeks.

Course Overview:

- Instill in participants a practical understanding of the building blocks of 2D VFX.

- Encourage students to dissect what makes a shot looks right and visually coherent.

- Explain different approaches to manipulating colours and light.

- Explain different approaches to creating masks and isolating groups of pixels.

- Explain VFX animation pipeline.

Fees: Supported by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC)

Location: MSC Malaysia Animation Creative Content Centre (MAC3), B-1-2A, SME Technopreneur Centre 2,2260 Jalan Usahawan 1,630000 Cyberjaya, Selongor, Malaysia.

Hasnul further added, “We have a maximum of 20 students per course. We would like to keep it a small group to ensure maximum exposure to our content and SMEs (subject matter experts).

Currently only Malaysian citizens are allowed to join the program as it is being supported by MAC3. Interested students need to send their resumes and contact to [email protected]. After which the students will receive a form and more information of the program. “Once we get the information in, we will go through all the candidates and contact them for a short interview. This will help us find the very best out there to join our program as we are spending a lot of resources to get the experts to train the students”, Hasnul asserted. The closing date for applications is 27th January for their first program in the Basics of Compositing in Production.

The class will be conducted in the MAC3 training lab for the duration of 12 weeks. This program has 3 weeks of intensive in-classroom training and 9 weeks of online assignments. Therefore, the first week will be done in the lab 9am to 5pm. Thereafter, 3 weeks the participants are allowed to work on their projects individually and are critiqued/ mentored online.

KL Educator Hussin Khan, who is also the Adobe Effects Malaysia evangelist, is leading the program. They also have 2 SMEs (Compositing Leads) who will be mentoring and supporting the class and assignments.
