Lucasfilm which had announced its expansion plans for Singapore has officially inaugurated its new facility at Fusionopolis with a ground breaking event.

Micheline Chau, President and COO of Lucasfilm, Ltd is joined by Guest of Honor, Leo Yip, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board and Manohar Khiatani, CEO of JTC Corporation, to officially break ground on Lucasfilm's state-of-the art facility at JTC's one-north Singapore. Named "The Sandcrawler Building," in playful reference to the structure's visual similarities to the famous vehicle seen in STAR WARS: Episode IV, the building will house Singapore divisions for Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts and Lucasfilm Animation -- producing digital animated content for film and television, visual effects for feature films and multi-platform games. Also joining the ceremony is Lucasfilm, Ltd's Colum Slevin, Vice President and Head of Studio Operations, Xavier Nicolas, General Manager of Lucasfilm Singapore, and Angelo Garcia, President of Lucas Real Estate Holdings.

The Sandcrawler Building has eight floors of office space, retail shopping space on the first floor, a public park area, elevated public gardens, a state-of-the-art data center and production capabilities as well as a 100 seat theatre.

The studio has chosen Singapore as its grounds for expansion for a variety of reasons, including its advanced infrastructure, geographically central location, solid IP protection, cosmopolitan outlook, great education options for our employees with families, as well as that fact that it's an English-speaking country.
